The Majority of Americans Went to Zero Movies in 2021

Americans don’t go to many movies anymore. In this graphic, we analyzed data from a December 2021 Gallup poll which asked a representative sample of 811 adults in all 50 states and D.C. about their moviegoing habits over the past year.

For the first time in the history of the survey (the same survey had been run sixteen times before, going back to the early 1990s), the median number of movies attended over the previous twelve months was “zero”. The mean response also touched a new low, at 1.4 movies.

AMC shares up 88% since the end of 2019, but does the underlying fundamental data support this repricing? Let us know what you think.
